Europe’s Utility Leaders Gather to Discuss Alternative Energy

To create power for the people, you need powerful people with powerful ideas!

João Torres, President of EDP - Distribuição - Energia, S.A., has confirmed attendance as the keynote speaker at the Next Generation Utilities Summit, the most important annual meeting of Utility executives in Europe.

The summit, which will be held from June 23rd-25th at the Westin CampoReal Golf Resort & Spa, Portugal, has been highlighted this year as a vital meeting place for the Utility industry’s thought-leaders to unite and combat the current economic crisis, as well as respond to the added pressure to invest in renewable energy sources and adhering to ever-changing regulations.

To create power for the people, you need powerful people with powerful ideas. In today’s world, utilities, power and energy have the potential to change the way we as a global community operate. Media-applauded ‘cutting edge’ solutions seem to be a familiar occurrence in the press, so when powerful people with powerful ideas congregate on their own accord to talk through the issues, it is always reason to take notice. Industry impresarios such as Simone Chiappi, VP Smart Metering for EON, Erik Thrane, CEO of Nordpool, Ronnie Belman, Chairman of ELIA, Markus Berger, CTO of Elia Engineering, and Torres’s own CIO, Jose Salas Orta will be amongst 50 other visionaries joining him next month.

A main topic on the agenda for these senior level leaders is wind farms, and the challenges of implementing alternative energy into the existing grid. With a new story, idea, public service announcement, or agenda promoting a solution to these issues every day, it is rare that the people who actually make it happen take the time to talk about real solutions. If targets are achieved, new innovation could pave the way for cheaper energy and more jobs within the sector.

Surely there will be no hot air in these conversations.
